The Bongo Tune
This was a big tune on the dancefloor as well as on the radio, with massive DJ support! It was one of the early tracks I engineered before my debut LP; I Am Renegade - it has many levels and is quite a complicated arrangement in the way the breaks roll and work together. This is a real `impact tune’ so the intro builds and it explodes into the `Dread Bass’, heavy roller style!!
The Future
This is one of my favourite tunes! It has the influences of early Detroit techno and the different layers of sub bass and analogue Synths over the top, with a solid stepper break. The beat was designed to just hold the back bone of the track but to guide you along the journey. Everything in this track compliments each other as a producer you have to find what works and how breaks and bases fit to make it roll. This is a great example of how to make a track from beginning middle and end - telling a story.
Going In Hard
This is an absolute monster of a track when you hear it on a rig!! The sound and strings bring you into another world and the sound fx are loud and cutting. You can’t fail to notice the Reese bass line when it kicks! I programmed the big, bold Beats to be original and pulsating, with epic drone sounds that suggest an alien invasion is happening!
And finally, some top production advice: “As a producer and artist you are always looking to push the boundaries and experiment with music. Don’t be shy or afraid, always try to think about of the box, using sounds and riffs that work, even if they’re totally unorthodox. Manipulate everything you can get your hands on to make it sound original from the start!”
