Whilst these machines sound great as they are, we’ve upped the ante to deliver even more old school character. Tracked to tape and cut to vinyl at one of London’s leading studio and mastering houses with the finest outboard in the industry, every sample comes imbued with authentic analogue warmth.
Meticulously curated from over 20 iconic drum machines, the hits have been initially processed through the SM chain (including Apollo UAD and Neve pre-amps, Prism Orpheus soundcard and assorted vintage mixers) before being tracked to Qauntegy GP-9 tape on a Studer A80, cut to vinyl with a Neumann VMS70 lathe, SAL 74C rack and SX74 cutting head and then lightly treated through the Phoenix Thermionic compressor via an all-analogue chain of Focusrite Blue 315 pre-amp, Maselec MEA-2 EQ and Waves Maxx BCL limiter.
Divided into folders of Tape, Vinyl, Cassette and Desk, the same hits are given new leases of life in each, from subtle air in the Desk version through to hardcore transient-trashing in the Smashed folder, offering different flavours for different production needs.
Vinyl > The classic vinyl sound – think warmth, body, fullness, air – is what this folder is about. Ideal for all manner of beat creation across all genres, hits were finalised using the Phoenix Thermionic valve compressor then cut to vinyl with a Neumann VMS70 Lathe, SAL 74C rack and SX74 cutting head.
A80 Tape > Warm, rich and lightly overdriven, these sounds have been imbued with the timeless sound of tape through a classic Studer A80 machine.
A80 Tape + Tascam Cassette > Combining the rich-sound of professional grade tape and DIY electronics this folder eschews high-fidelity audio for punch, grit and attitude. The Tascam Domestic 22-2 1/4” tape deck modulates pitch and highlights rich harmonic distortion for hits useful in a wide range of classic and lo-fi genres.
Desk > The cleanest drums of the lot, these hits are run through a Focusrite Blue 315 pre-amp, Maselec MEA-2 EQ and Waves Maxx BCL limiter (reducing no more than 1-2dB of gain) for lightly massaged body and warmth.
Smashed > We max-out the input, distorting it through the desk for a hardcore, distorted vibe. Think L.I.E.S, Opal Tapes, Trilogy Tapes or White Material Records - seriously distorted filth and crunchy character!
